I wrote a post about “Etiquette and Modernity” last month and mentioned a clip from the 1950s which Blogger Andrew Lih has now put on YouTube. It’s just another example of how the recent and very public “manners” campaigns have a long track record in China. (Coincidentally, today is the the 11th of the month meaning that it is officially ’stand in a line day.’ And no, I’m not making that up.)

that’s a great film clip. poor old laotou’r, don’t they know what’ll happen down the road when those uppity kids get a taste of haranguing old people on the street?
count me among the pro-spitting silent majority. wenming is highly overrated.
