China Bowl canceled

April 1st, 2007 · 3 Comments

SI is reporting that the NFL will announce on Monday that the game between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks scheduled for this August in Beijing has been canceled.

Which genuinely sucks but at least makes my Chinese Tom Brady jersey an instant collectible.

    Figures.

Why wouldn’t they? It wasn’t like they actually had a date or anything picked out.

Plus they had all us Americans in China looking forward to it…

    Who’s to blaim here?

Damn shame, that woulda been something. I was all set to practice my crowd surfing for the Olympics.

Actually, if the last rough date I saw–August, I think–had held, I’d have missed it anyway. Still, it’s disappointing.

Reading between the lines of the NFL’s statement, there is a level of control that’s required when the NFL does an event–control over quality, organization, and personnel–that just wasn’t going to be possible.

Also I doubt any of the players or coaches supported the idea of taking a few days in the middle of training camp to dash across the Pacific.

    But yeah…it sucks.

I have heard a rumor that another favorite team of mine–Arsenal–might be making a China trip soon.
