Ah, how conversations on human rights have changed under the present administration….reminds me of how too many recent discussions here in the ‘Jing have gone:

Sad, but true.

Yeah, it’s real disappointing. The idea that many countries around the world are actually moving toward more democratic governance, while mine is moving toward becoming a violent (wars of choice), sadistic (torture and the suspension of habeas corpus) , totalitarian (illegal surveillance, criminalizing politics – see seigelman/rove) state is deeply disturbing.
And…as I was driving south on Rte 93 in sylvan NH last weekend I was stopped by immigration, as were all drivers heading in that direction. A number of cars were pulled over — I, my late middle-aged self, passed scrutiny and was allowed to continue uninterrupted. Apparently this is part of the “homeland security.” Ironic, eh?
After living in Vermont for 12 years, I can’t even go to New York without getting sick from the air. What do you think the continuous inhalation of the Beijing breeze is doing to you? And you jog in it? I hope you’re being chased by someone really ugly to risk your life like that. I hope you are smart enough to wear a mask…or at least to smoke a cigarette (filter, of course.)
Abby,
You get used to it and try not to think of the awesome and likely permanent damage being done to your lungs on a daily basis. Nothing beats New England air though…
