Happy New Year!

The Year of the Ox is upon us. YJ’s Dad and I returned from a brief trip to the front of their xiaoqu to light the obligatory string of fireworks. We hardly had need to bother…Tianjin tonight is doing its best impersonation of London during the Blitz.

The evening was a festive one with jiaozi and television. Once again I sat through all four excruciating hours of the CCTV New Years Gala. I even kept some notes which I may or may not post later depending on how snarky I’m feeling in the morning light.

Happy “Niu” Year (Yeah, I went there) and YJ and I wish everyone good health, happiness, and prosperity for the coming Year of the Ox!

I caught quite a bit of the CCTV show in Jiangjinjiu last night. Without sound (or nothing that could be heard over the fireworks outside, anyway) it becomes an even more surreal experience.

I’d be intrigued to learn what that extended skit with the extremely camp waiter wearing a kilt was all about.

  • Happy New Year!

I dunno, most of the skits and crosstalks I quite enjoyed. It was the song-and-dance stuff I could’ve lived without.

Froog- that was Zhao Benshan’s piece. I assure you, the camp was entirely deliberate, and it was actually quite fun to listen to.

Happy Mooo Year to you too!

I pissed off my wife by refusing to watch the CCTV Gaga and wrote a post instead. What happened to your cool feature which shows the latest posts from the blogs on your blogroll btw?

  • Kim,

Yeah…good question. I updated the plug-in and poof they disappeared. Need to work on getting them back, I really liked that feature too.

  • What did you think of the foreign dufus they had in the 北京欢迎你 skit?

  • I thought he was less of an embarrassment than most of the “外奸” who appear on these shows. But that’s not saying much.

Do it, Jeremiah. You know it makes sense.
