I think my favorite part is “corn: most of it is bad, although some of it is fairly good.”
Do you think the narrator read Chinese? Why is always saying “Catch up with America” or “anti-American” when to my knowledge, the slogan (and some of the signs) were England?
I’d have to watch the video again to see which signs they used, but I always thought the big slogan was 超英赶美 “Surpass England and catch up with America.” It’s also possible that given the provenance of the video the anti-American aspects of CCP propaganda were being emphasized.
Most of the propaganda posters I’ve seen focus on “surpassing England,” but I understand why he is stressing the anti-American sentiment. Seriously, that archive site is incredible. Thanks for passing on, I’ve been on all morning, downloading texts and reveling in the fact that I’ve found my excuse to buy an iPad.
