I’ve made a few small changes to the site of late including a new archives page (upper left hand corner) that has a list of all of my posts from the last four years. It also has a list of my 27 favorite posts from 2006 to 2009. Enjoy. Despite my small work and research-related hiatus, this past month Jottings from the Granite Studio had its 500th post and its 150,000th visitor. Small time compared to Perez Hilton but not bad for a hobby. Which is more a testament to the ubiquity of history blogging, that we have our own list of top blogs or that a catalog of the top blogs needs 80 spots to be inclusive? I think there would be some out there who would be surprised to learn there are actually more than 80 active history blogs in existence. Ah, what twisted webs the world weaves with a bit of time and bandwidth to burn. Anyway, after carnivaling myself into a productivity stupor over the weekend, I spent a merry couple of hours on Sunday evening perusing Ralph Luker’s condensation of Cliopatria’s blogroll: an interest that was in way influenced by the inclusion of this little hobby of mine on Professor Luker’s 80 recommended history blogs. (Ok, maybe it influenced me a little…) Highly recommended for those with some time to kill and an interest in online historical writing. Richard of The Peking Duck and I are hosting a dinner on Friday, March 7. We haven’t exactly settled on a venue yet (suggestions welcome for someplace with a large private room, cocktails and–preferably but necessarily–Peking duck on the menu). The plan is for 7:30 drinks and an 8:30 dinner. These are always lively gatherings with great conversation, if you have any interest in having dinner and talking China (and other things, too) email me at granitestudio@hotmail.com so I can reserve seats and send you directions to the location. Hope everyone can make it. |

What have I been doing since the Bob Dylan concert in April?
Writing. Teaching. Traveling. And having visions of revolutionary wild fowl.
